Identifying and achieving success means understanding your WHY.

While building success, obstacles appear, life sidetracks, time diminishes, and all the while we have to continue attempting to accomplish things. At some point, we may ask the question, “What’s my motivation?” What’s supposed to keep me awake after a long day at work? What’s supposed to make me want to set time aside that I could be spending doing something else? Motivation can come from many things: money, security, family. All of these things could keep the ball rolling, and all are important. However, as the importance of these things wane from time to time, our motivation to succeed may also wane, leaving our drive at the mercy of life’s ebbs and flows.
But what if Purpose were the active ingredient in your motivation? Determining your “why” is crucial when persevering to find success. Inevitably, there will be less desirable things that need to be completed before getting to the fun stuff. So, what keeps you from being discouraged about having to work a 9-to-5 to fund your business, or about needing to stay up late to develop your business plan or create a time-management plan? Consider this quote from one of my favorite books, “Finding the Work You Love” by Laurence G. Boldt:
“There are only so many years in a life, weeks in a year, minutes in a day. The fact that we have a limited amount of time means we must learn to manage it well. This begins with making value choices, establishing priorities and goals. We maximize the time we have each day when we use it from the perspective of a long-range vision of what we want to accomplish in our lives.”
That long-range vision is what houses your Purpose. It makes working to accomplish it become your favorite thing to do, whether that means working for a 9-5 job every day or finally making use of your home office. Ultimately, the goal is to find success in life and business through achieving Purpose. If you haven’t already, begin to operate from a perspective of Purpose. Let Purpose become your active ingredient.
